Side Effects
Nausea, mild stomach discomfort, or loose stools reported in some users at doses >1000mg daily. Take with food to minimize. Resolves upon dose reduction or discontinuation.
Anserine can be hydrolyzed to histamine in the gut. Individuals with histamine sensitivity or on DAO inhibitors may experience facial flushing or mild headache. Rare at typical research doses.
Mild headache reported in <5% of users, typically transient and resolving within 1-2 days. Ensure adequate hydration.
Rare reports of urticaria, angioedema, or anaphylaxis in individuals with dipeptide or histamine sensitivity. Discontinue immediately and seek medical attention if breathing difficulty, swelling, or severe rash occurs.

Anserine is a methylated dipeptide (β-alanyl-N-methylhistamine) derived from carnosine that acts as an intracellular buffer and antioxidant in muscle tissue. It accumulates in skeletal muscle where it neutralizes hydrogen ions produced during high-intensity exercise, reducing lactate-induced fatigue, and scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) to protect muscle cells from oxidative damage during and after exercise.
